Atalanta plays a high press style of football built on aggression and intense vertical movement. This 3-4-3 formation relies on winning the ball high up the pitch to catch opponents off guard. The lineup is designed to squeeze the space in the opponent half and force turnovers through constant pressure.
Scuffet acts as the goalkeeper, playing behind a back three that maintains a high line to compress the pitch. Miquel plays as the left centre-back, providing coverage while Aké sits in the middle to win headers and organize the line. B. Koné operates as the right centre-back, capable of stepping into midfield to create an extra man. The defensive unit works as a single block, shifting together to deny passing lanes and ensuring the team remains compact even when the defenders push up.
The midfield uses a two-man central pairing supported by wide midfielders to control the center and the flanks. Cigarini, the captain, acts as the deep lying playmaker who directs play and connects the defense to the attack. Baselli works alongside him to drive forward with the ball and win the second ball in the middle of the pitch. Noone and Selassie provide the width in this setup, acting as wide midfielders who help the team transition. They must track back to help the defenders but also push high to support the front three.
At the front, the team employs three attackers to pin the last defender and stretch the opposition. Muriel plays as a wide forward on the left, often cutting inside to find space in the channels. M. Steven operates on the right wing, looking to isolate defenders one on one. Zapata acts as the lone striker and target man, using his strength to hold up the ball and allow others to join the attack. The forwards press from the front in a coordinated way to prevent the opponent from playing out from the back.
This formation offers significant advantages in terms of high pressing waves. By using three central defenders and two central midfielders, Atalanta can win the ball back high up the pitch very quickly. The wide players Noone and Selassie create overloads on the flanks when they overlap the wingers. This allows the team to quickly switch play and catch the opponent out of position.
The 3-4-3 formation provides an aggressive platform for high pressing and quick transitions. It is a setup best suited for games where the team wants to dominate through physical intensity and territorial control.
