Starting Lineup

REIZIGER · BLIND · FRANK · RIJKAARD · SEEDORF · DAVIDS · LITMANEN · FINIDI · OVERMARS · RONALD DE BOER · VAN DER SAR

Ajax plays a high press 3-4-3. The team focuses on winning the ball high up the pitch and playing through the lines to catch opponents out. This lineup is built to dominate possession and use aggressive movement to break the lines of the opposition. By winning it back high up the pitch, Ajax can transition into attack with immense speed.

VAN DER SAR starts in goal, using his sweeping ability and distribution to start attacks. The defensive unit consists of a back three with FRANK on the left, BLIND in the middle, and REIZIGER on the right. BLIND acts as a ball playing defender to help play out from the back. FRANK and REIZIGER stay compact to defend zonally and cover the space behind the midfield. They look to squeeze the space and set the offside trap when the team moves up the pitch.

The midfield is a central engine room. RIJKAARD sits as the shield to deny the pivot and protect the back three, using his passing range to switch play. DAVIDS and SEEDORF act as two driving midfielders who carry the ball forward and press in a mid-block. LITMANEN plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, using his vision to receive on the half-turn and play through the lines. This group works to compress the midfield and win it back high up the pitch to keep the pressure on.

In the final third, RONALD DE BOER leads the line as a pressing centre-forward. He works to pin the last defender and link up in combinations to stretch the defence. OVERMARS and FINIDI operate as wide wingers. OVERMARS looks to cut inside and create chances, while FINIDI stretches the defence by making runs in behind. They look to isolate one on one situations against full backs and whip it in toward the box or cut it back from the byline.

A major advantage for Ajax is the numerical superiority in midfield. Having four players like RIJKAARD, DAVIDS, SEEDORF, and LITMANEN allows the team to control the center and recycle possession easily. The team also uses the ability to press high in coordinated waves to force a long ball from the opposition. This creates chances to win the second ball in dangerous areas and play short from the back when the opponent retreats.

This 3-4-3 formation relies on aggressive movement and technical ability to dominate matches. It is best suited for games against teams that play out from the back or struggle with high intensity.
