Ascoli focuses on a high press and rapid transitions using a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup is built to squeeze the pitch and win the ball back high up the pitch to catch opponents out of position. The team looks to use the width of the field to stretch the opposition and create chances through quick vertical movements.

CARUSO guards the goal as the last line of defense. The defensive unit sits in a back five that functions as a zonal line. DIOUF sits central to command the area and win headers, while TORNATORE and MIDOLO act as wide centre-backs to cover the channels. The wing backs, CAPUANA and PUCCIO, are tasked with providing immense width and overlapping the winger when the team has possession. This defensive block is designed to stay compact and deny the turn to oncoming attackers.

The midfield consists of a two-man central pairing. VECA and NOVELLO work to control the middle of the pitch, with the duty to intercept passes and win the second ball. VECA often looks to carry the ball forward to link the defense to the attack, while NOVELLO works to shield the defense and cover the space left by the advancing wing backs. They must press aggressively to win the ball back in a mid-block to prevent the opposition from playing out from the back.

Ascoli employs three attackers across the front line to pin the last defender. REIS operates as a pressing centre-forward to harass the opposition centre-backs. On the flanks, VENTURA and KABANGU/ 19.CUTISPOTO play as wide wingers who hug the touchline to pull the defensive line apart. These attackers aim to hit in behind on the transition, looking for runs in behind or cutbacks from the byline once CAPUANA or PUCCIO reach the wide areas.

The formation offers several tactical advantages. The presence of three attackers allows Ascoli to press in pairs and force a long ball from the opposition. By using wing backs like CAPUANA and PUCCIO, the team creates wide overloads that force defenders to make difficult choices. Additionally, the back five provides compactness when defending, making it very difficult for opponents to find space between the lines.

This 5-2-3 formation prioritizes verticality and aggressive pressing to disrupt the opponent. It is best suited for matches against teams that play a high line and struggle to defend against quick transitions.
