Matheus Savio plays as an attacking ten, finding pockets of space between the lines to create chances. In the final third, the team uses three attackers to stretch the defense. Shoya Nakajima and Takuro Kaneko occupy the wide areas, acting as wingers who can cut inside to create overloads. Thiago acts as the lone striker, tasked to hold up the ball and find the feet of teammates arriving late into the box. The attackers press from the front to force a long ball, while the wingers look to get to the byline and deliver crosses to Thiago.

A major strength of this 2-5-3 formation is the ability to create numerical superiority in the center of the pitch.
