Inter Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Acerbi · Bastoni · Pavard · Dimarco · Dumfries · Zielinski · Barella · Calhanoglu · M. Thuram · Lautaro · SommerInter focuses on a heavy high press and rapid transitions through a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup is built to control the middle of the pitch and use wide runners to stretch the opponent. The team looks to win the ball high up the pitch and move it forward quickly to catch the opposition out of position.
Sommer sits between the posts to organize the back line. The defensive unit operates with a back three consisting of Acerbi, Bastoni, and Pavard. Bastoni acts as a ball playing defender who can step up into the midfield to progress the ball. Acerbi and Pavard provide cover and are dominant in the air. This unit maintains a high line to squeeze the space and keep the team compact.
The midfield employs a three man midfield with a carrier and a deep playmaker. Calhanoglu sits in the hole to distribute play and control the tempo from deep. Barella and Zielinski operate in the half spaces to connect the defense to the attack. Barella is known for his high pressing intensity and ability to carry the ball forward. This group works to win the second ball and recycle possession quickly to keep the pressure on.
In the attacking phase, the team uses two forwards in a partnership. Lautaro and M. Thuram lead the line to press the opposition back line. Lautaro acts as a pressing centre-forward to force mistakes, while M. Thuram uses his pace to make runs in behind. Dimarco and Dumfries act as attacking wing backs to provide width and deliver crosses. They overlap the wingers to create overloads on the flanks and often whip it in towards the two strikers.
Inter gains a significant advantage through wide overloads from overlapping full backs. The presence of Dimarco and Dumfries forces the opposition to defend wide areas. Another strength is the ability to press high in coordinated waves with the front three and the midfield trio. This high pressure makes it hard for opponents to play out from the back.
The 3-5-2 formation relies on aggressive pressing and quick verticality. It is a lineup best suited for games where the team needs to dominate the central zones and exploit spaces behind the opposition wing backs.
