In the attacking third, Mainz utilizes three attackers to pin the last defender. Burkardt acts as the central striker, tasked to hold up the ball and find the feet of his teammates. Nebel and Lee play as wide attackers, with Nebel on the left and Lee on the right. These players are expected to cut inside to create central threats or get to the byline to deliver crosses. The front line presses from the front to force a long ball from the opposition, creating turnovers in dangerous areas.
