Lecce plays a vertical style of football using a 4-3-3 formation. This lineup aims to win the ball high up the pitch and move quickly toward the opponent goal. The focus remains on direct play and making runs in behind the opposition defense.

In the defensive unit, 1 acts as the goalkeeper to cover the goal. The back four consists of 5 at right back and 2 at left back, while 4 and 3 operate as the two central defenders. 5 and 2 often push up to provide width, while 4 and 3 maintain a high line to squeeze the space in the middle. The central defenders must be able to clear the lines and win the header when long balls are played. This unit works together to defend zonally and prevent through balls.

The midfield features a system with three players where 8 acts as the single pivot to shield the defense. 10 and 6 operate as the two central midfielders, where 10 looks to drive forward with the ball and 6 helps to recycle possession. 8 stays deep to protect the center and pick up runners from the opposition. This group connects the defense to the attack, allowing 10 or 6 to play through the lines and find the attackers.

Leading the attack, Lecce uses three attackers across the front. 11 operates as the lone striker, often tasked to hold up the ball and pin the last defender. 9 and 7 play as wide wingers, with 9 on the left and 7 on the right. Both 9 and 7 like to cut inside to create space for the full backs to overlap. The forwards press from the front to force a long ball and win the second ball.

One major advantage for Lecce is the ability to press high in coordinated waves with the front three and the midfield. This creates chances to win it back high up the pitch. Another strength is the wide overloads created when 5 or 2 overlap the winger, leaving 7 or 9 in one on one situations. The speed of transition allows the team to hit in behind on the transition very effectively.

This 4-3-3 formation is built to dominate games through high pressing and quick vertical movements. It is best suited for facing opponents that struggle to play out from the back or leave space behind their defensive line.
