Juventus focuses on a direct and vertical style of play through a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup is built to sit deep and hit the opposition with speed once the ball is recovered. By using a heavy defensive base, Juventus can absorb pressure before using the forward line to punish mistakes.

Stefano Tacconi stands between the posts to command the area. The defensive unit operates with a back five, featuring a central trio of Massimo Bonini, Mark Iuliano, and Sandro Salvatore. Bonini acts as the main presence in the middle to win the header and clear the lines. Salvatore and Iuliano provide cover to the sides, while Jonathan Zebina and Alex Sandro act as attacking wing backs. These wide defenders push high to provide width, while the central trio holds a compact shape to deny space between the lines.

The midfield consists of a two man unit with Pietro Anastasi and Helmut Haller. These two players act as the engine to connect the defense to the attack. Anastasi and Haller must work hard to cover the ground and press in a mid block to win the ball back. They are tasked with protecting the space in front of the back five and recycling possession when the team needs to slow the game down. Their main job is to find the feet of the strikers or launch direct balls to break the line.

In the final third, the team uses three attackers to stretch the defence. Filippo Inzaghi plays as a pressing centre forward, constantly looking to move into pockets of space. David Trezeguet and Raimundo Orsi operate on the flanks, with Orsi often looking to cut inside and Trezeguet finding ways to get behind the defense. The forward line works in combinations to create runs in behind the opposition. They aim to play through the lines quickly, using the width provided by the wing backs to create crossing opportunities.

A major advantage of this formation is the ability to defend in a low block with great compactness. The five defenders make it very difficult for opponents to find space centrally. Juventus also benefits from the speed of transition, as the wing backs and wide attackers can immediately spring forward once the ball is won. This setup allows the team to isolate wide players in one on one situations during a counter attack.

This formation is a defensive powerhouse designed to absorb pressure and strike with precision. It is best suited for games against dominant teams where sitting deep and hitting on the break is the priority.
