PSG focuses on heavy control and high pressing using a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup is built to dominate the ball in the opponent half and win it back quickly through coordinated pressure. By pushing many players forward, the team seeks to overwhelm the opposition through central density and high attacking numbers.

DONNARUMMA operates as the lone goalkeeper, acting as a sweeping presence behind a very high defensive line. The back line consists of a central pair with MARQUINHOS and PACHO. MARQUINHOS uses his aerial strength and positional sense to lead the defense, while PACHO provides cover and helps play out from the back. Because the formation relies on a very high line, the two defenders must be ready to squeeze the space and manage runs in behind.

The midfield is the engine of this PSG lineup, operating as a five man unit to control the center of the pitch. NEVES sits deep to shield the defense and helps recycle possession. He is joined by MENDES and HAKIMI who act as driving midfielders to carry the ball forward. FABIAN/EMERY and VITINHA operate in the half spaces, creating numerical superiority to link the defense to the front three. This group works to compress the midfield and ensure the team can win the ball back high up the pitch.

In the attacking phase, the team uses three attackers to pin the last defender. DEMBELE leads the line as a focal point, using his dribbling style to create chances. BARCOLA occupies the right side to stretch the defense, while KVARATSKHELIA /DOUE operates on the left. These wide players often cut inside to create more central presence, allowing the midfielders to support the attack. The goal is to create combinations in tight spaces and deliver quick passes to exploit gaps in the opposition line.

One major tactical advantage is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it difficult for opponents to build play. The team also creates massive wide overloads when the midfielders and wide attackers combine to overwhelm the opponent flanks. This density in the middle allows for quick transitions and high ball recovery rates.

This 2-5-3 formation is designed for total dominance and high intensity pressing. It is best suited for matches where the team wants to suffocate the opponent and control the tempo through heavy possession.
