Lecco prefers to play with a high press and quick transitions using a 3-4-3 formation. This lineup focuses on winning the ball high up the pitch and using wide players to stretch the opposition. The goal is to use the width of the pitch to create scoring chances while staying compact when the ball is lost.
Festa acts as the goalkeeper to organize the back line. The defensive unit consists of a back three where Maggioni plays as the right centre-back and Solini operates as the left centre-back. Cella sits in the middle of this trio to hold the line and command the area. These defenders are tasked to defend zonally and cover the space behind the midfield. When the team plays out from the back, the three defenders must maintain a wide base to allow the midfielders to move into space.
The midfield operates with two central players, Trimboli and Artioli, who act as the engine room. Trimboli and Artioli work to connect the defence to the attack, with one often dropping to help the centre-backs while the other drives forward. They are supported by wide midfielders Radaelli and Giordano who operate in the channels. Radaelli and Giordano must track back to help the defenders but also push high to act as wing backs in possession. This setup helps the midfield control the tempo and win the second ball in central areas.
In the attacking third, Lecco utilizes three forwards to pin the opposition back. Mensah acts as the central striker to lead the line and hold up the ball. On the flanks, Mancuso plays as a left winger and Bragantini operates as a right winger. Mancuso and Bragantini look to cut inside to create numbers in the box or provide width to deliver crosses. These attackers press from the front to force long balls from the opponent, allowing the Lecco defense to regain possession quickly.
One major advantage of this formation is the ability to create wide overloads when Radaelli and Giordano push forward to join the wingers. This creates constant pressure on the opposition full backs. Lecco also benefits from the numerical superiority in the attacking third, which makes it difficult for opposing back lines to track all the runners. The coordination between the midfield and the front three allows the team to transition from a mid-block to a direct attack very quickly.
The 3-4-3 formation provides Lecco with a high level of attacking intent and width. This setup is best suited for matches against teams that play a high defensive line and can be exploited with speed on the break.
