The defensive unit functions to stay compact and step up to trigger a press when the ball enters their half.

The midfield operates as a three-man midfield with a carrier and a creative hub. Rice plays as a single pivot to shield the defence and win the second ball. Zinchenko operates as an inverted midfielder, dropping into the half-spaces to help build play from the back. Odegaard plays as the advanced creator, looking to play through the lines and find the feet of the forwards. This trio works to link the defensive unit with the attacking line by recycling possession and breaking lines with vertical passes.

Arsenal uses three attackers across the front to stretch the defence. Martinelli plays as the striker, making runs in behind to test the opposition back line. Trossard and Nwaneri occupy the wide areas, with Trossard acting as an inverted winger who cuts inside to find goal scoring opportunities. Nwaneri stays wide to provide width and create isolations. The front three press from the front to prevent the opponent from playing out from the back, often looking to win the ball high up the pitch.

This formation offers several tactical advantages. Arsenal can create numerical superiority in midfield when Zinchenko moves inside to join Rice and Odegaard. The team can also achieve wide overloads when the full backs push high to support the wingers.
