Ajax plays with a focus on defensive solidity and quick transitions using a 5-3-2 formation. This lineup is built to sit deep and deny space in the middle before hitting opponents on the break. By using five defenders, the team aims to be hard to break down while leaving room for the wing backs to push forward.

Lucifela guards the goal as the last line of defense. The back line consists of a central trio made of Anni, Rectify, and Mustangs. Anni acts as the central anchor to hold the line, while Rectify and Mustangs cover the channels. Casper and Sky act as attacking wing backs, providing the necessary width by pushing up the flanks. This defensive unit stays compact to protect the central zones and forces the opposition to play wide.

The midfield is a three-man midfield with a carrier and creative roles. Savi and Wize operate in the central areas to win the second ball and protect the back three. Ada plays as an attacking ten behind the strikers to connect the lines. Ada works to receive the ball in the half spaces and play through the lines to find the forwards. Savi and Wize must track back to help the wing backs when the team loses possession.

Ajax utilizes two forwards in a partnership to stretch the defense. Kaiz and Wayback lead the line, working together to hold up the ball and run in behind. Kaiz acts as a pressing centre-forward to trigger a press from the front, while Wayback looks to find space between the defenders. The attack relies on the wing backs, Casper and Sky, to provide crosses from the byline or cutbacks to the two strikers.

This formation offers significant tactical advantages such as compactness when defending in a mid-block. The team can create wide overloads when Casper and Sky push high to support the wingers. Another strength is the ability to hit in behind on the transition, using the speed of the two strikers once the ball is won.

Ajax relies on a heavy defensive base to launch direct attacks. This 5-3-2 formation is best suited for facing teams that dominate possession and leave space behind their high defensive line.
