MICHEL DANIELRAJ (1) · MARISELVAN (5) · PRAVIN (4) · BENJAMIN (22) · VIKNESH (25) · KALICHARAN (7) · NAVIN (16) · ANGELIN ARUN (6) · SARAVANAN (8) · VIGNESH KUMAR (11) · SHANMUGA MANI (12)Lajong aims to play a direct and vertical style of football using a 4-4-2 formation. This lineup relies on winning second balls and quick transitions to catch the opposition out of position. By maintaining two clear lines, Lajong looks to keep the team compact and hard to break down while waiting for the moment to strike.
Michel Danielraj stands between the posts to organize the defensive unit. The back line operates as a flat back four with Mariselvan as the right back and Pravin on the left. Benjamin and Viknesh act as the central defenders, working together to defend zonally and clear the lines when under pressure. Mariselvan and Pravin are tasked to hold the line and provide cover for the central pair to ensure the team remains hard to play through.
The midfield is built around two central banks that aim to squeeze the space in the center of the pitch. Kalicharan and Navin form the central pairing to shield the defence and contest the middle third. On the flanks, Saravanan and Angelin Arun provide width and track back to help the full backs when defending deep. The midfield unit works to intercept passes and quickly find the forwards once the ball is won.
Up front, Lajong uses two forwards in a partnership to lead the press from the front. Shanmuga Mani and Vignesh Kumar act as the attacking duo, looking to run in behind the opposition defence. They often combine in tight spaces to move the ball toward the goal. The forwards work to pin the last defender and make runs to stretch the defence, creating space for the midfielders to arrive late into the box.
A major advantage for Lajong is the ability to maintain compactness when defending in a mid-block. The formation allows for wide overloads when the full backs push up to support the wingers. Furthermore, the two strikers can pressure the opposition center backs, forcing a long ball and allowing the team to win the second ball and start a counter at pace.
This 4-4-2 formation provides a balance between defensive solidity and attacking directness. It is a lineup best suited for matches against teams that play with a high line or leave large gaps between their midfield and defence.
