Al-Hilal focuses on a defensive identity built to absorb pressure and strike on the break using a 5-4-1. This formation is designed to sit deep and remain compact, making it very hard for opponents to find space between the lines. The team looks to congest the middle of the pitch and rely on quick transitions once the ball is recovered.

TELLO stays between the posts to organize the defensive line. The back five acts as a narrow defensive block, with MUKHTAR, AL FHEED, and ABBAS holding a solid central line. MUKHTAR and ABBAS provide the main presence in the middle to win the second ball, while AL FHEED provides cover. On the flanks, AL SAEED and LUCAS act as attacking wing backs, tasked with providing width when the team has the ball and tracking back to form a five when defending.

A central single pivot role is held by JASON, who stays close to the back line to shield the defence. In front of him, the midfield operates with a flat four. TAWFEEQ and BAATEAH work as the central engines to win the second ball and recycle possession. MARWAN operates as an attacking ten behind the striker, looking to find pockets of space to connect the midfield to the attack. This unit works to compress the midfield and deny the turn to opposition playmakers.

The attacking system relies on a lone striker, JACOB, who acts as a target man to hold up the ball. Because the team sits deep, the front line must work hard to press from the front and force a long ball from the opponent. The width comes from AL SAEED and LUCAS pushing high to provide crosses. JACOB often has to fight for isolated situations, looking to lay it off to MARWAN or exploit runs in behind when the team breaks quickly.

Al-Hilal finds success through their compactness when defending in a low block. The presence of five defenders makes it difficult for opponents to find gaps, and the coordination between the midfield and the back line allows them to squeeze the space effectively. By using the wing backs to provide width, they can also transition from a narrow defensive stance to a wider attacking stance very rapidly.

This formation is best suited for Al-Hilal when they face teams that dominate possession and need to protect a lead. It provides a reliable way to nullify strong attacking sides by forcing them into wide areas where they are less dangerous.
