Arce operates as an attacking wing back on the right to provide width, whereas Roger plays as the left wing back to support the defensive block. This group works to squeeze the space between the lines and prevent any penetrative passes.

The midfield operates in a flat four to protect the defensive unit. L.C. Goiano sits in the single pivot role to shield the defense and intercept play. Arílson and Paulo Nunes work to control the middle, with Arílson acting as a carrier to drive forward with the ball. C. Miguel plays on the left side of this midfield quartet to help connect the defense to the attack and press in a mid-block. This group is tasked with winning the second ball and recycling possession quickly to move the team up the pitch.

Grêmio uses a lone striker in Jardel to lead the line. As a target man, Jardel holds up the ball to allow the midfielders to push forward.
