Starting Lineup

To maintain a solid defensive block and look for quick transitions, Estudiantes (LP) employs a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup focuses on being defensively solid while remaining lethal on the counter. The team is built to sit deep and then strike with pace once they win the ball in the middle third.

ANDUJAR plays in goal to anchor the defensive unit. The defense operates as a back five with BRAÑA sitting in the center to command the area. SCHIAVI and DESÁBATO act as the side center backs, providing cover and winning headers during aerial duels. CELLAY and RÉ act as attacking wing backs who provide width across the pitch. These two must track back to maintain the five man line but are also tasked to push high and overlap the wingers when the team has the ball.

The midfield consists of a double pivot with VERÓN and PEREZ. VERÓN uses his passing range to break the line and find the forwards, while PEREZ works to shield the defense and win the second ball. This pairing is vital to connect the defense to the attack. They must stay compact to compress the midfield and prevent the opponent from playing through the center. VERÓN often drops slightly to help build play from the back or to receive on the half turn.

In the final third, the team uses three attackers with BOSELLI acting as a lone striker. BOSELLI works to hold up the ball and find the feet of his teammates. BENITEZ and FERNANDEZ operate as wide attackers who look to cut inside or stretch the defense by pulling wide. The wingers press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition back line. This creates space for BOSELLI to play combinations with the wide players or to find them with through balls.

The formation offers significant tactical advantages, specifically through wide overloads. When CELLAY and RÉ push up, they create extra numbers in the attacking third. The team also gains numerical superiority in the defensive phase by having five players to mark opposition attackers. This allows Estudiantes (LP) to remain very compact and deny the turn to any player entering the central zone.
