Rakitić and Pukstaš operate as the central runners who connect the defense to the attack. Livaja plays in the hole behind the strikers, acting as an attacking ten who finds the feet of the strikers and creates chances from central areas.

Hajduk use two forwards in a partnership to stretch the opposition back line. Šego and Mlakar operate as the front two, with Šego often acting as a pressing centre forward to force a long ball from the opponent. Mlakar looks to make runs in behind to exploit space. The attack relies on the link up play between Livaja and the two strikers to create combinations in tight spaces.
