This pair must work hard to bridge the gap between the defense and the attack, with the RCM looking to find the forwards with long passes while the LCM tracks back to cover ground.

The attacking line is extremely aggressive with four players. The LW and RW act as wide wingers who stay near the touchline to pull the opposition defense apart. In the center, AP operates as an attacking playmaker to link the midfield and the strike partnership. The AF works as an advanced forward to run in behind the defense. This front four will press from the front to force mistakes and look to strike in transition.

Chelsea offers great speed of transition with this setup. By having four players high up the pitch, they can quickly exploit space when they win the ball back. The formation also creates width through FB and FB, which can lead to wide overloads. This setup forces the opponent to defend a lot of ground very quickly.

This 4-2-4 formation focuses on high pressure and rapid verticality. It is best suited for games where Chelsea can exploit a high line or win the ball in the middle third to catch the opposition out of position.
