Starting Lineup

Audax prioritizes a direct style of play through a 4-4-2 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball back high up the pitch and transition quickly into the final third. The team focuses on staying compact to deny the opponent time on the ball and uses verticality to move the play toward the goal.

Player 1 guards the goal while the defensive unit sits in a flat back four. Player 5 and Player 4 act as the full backs, with Player 5 covering the left and Player 4 on the right. Player 2 and Player 3 serve as the central defenders, where Player 2 and Player 3 must hold the line and win headers to clear the lines. The back four works to shift together, squeezing the space to force a long ball from the opposition.

The midfield functions with a central core to bridge the gap between the defense and the attack. Player 6 and Player 8 operate as a central pairing to protect the defensive line and win the second ball. Player 7 joins the central group to help recycle possession and move the ball through the thirds. Player 10 sits in the hole as an attacking ten, looking to receive on the half-turn and play through the lines to the forwards. This group works to press in a mid-block and intercept passes in the center.

Audax uses a two-man strike force consisting of Player 9 and Player 11. Player 9 acts as a pressing centre-forward to disrupt the opposition build up, while Player 11 looks to make runs in behind. The attack relies on Player 10 to link play and deliver early passes. The team works to stretch the defence by spreading wide, which creates space for Player 9 and Player 11 to combine in tight spaces. The forwards aim to hit in behind on the transition to catch the opposition out of position.

A key advantage of this formation is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, using the front three of Player 9, Player 11, and Player 10 to trigger a press. Audax also gains an advantage through speed of transition, allowing the team to break quickly once the midfield wins possession. This creates immediate danger and forces the opponent to defend deep.

This 4-4-2 lineup is designed for high intensity and rapid attacking movements. It is best suited for facing teams that play with a high line and leave space behind their defenders.
