The midfield operates as a flat four to squeeze the space in the center. Danilo Boza and M.Høibråten occupy the central roles to shield the defense and disrupt play. Danilo Boza works to win the ball and connect the defensive and attacking lines. On the wings, T.Sekine (C) and T.Ogiwara provide width and are tasked with pressing the opposition when they try to play out from the back. T.Sekine (C) uses his energy to drive forward and help the transition from a defensive stance to an attacking one.

Urawa utilizes a lone striker in S.Nichikawa to lead the line. S.Nichikawa acts as a pressing centre-forward to force the opposition back line into mistakes. Because the team relies on a single attacker, the midfielders like T.Sekine (C) and T.Ogiwara must push up quickly during transitions to support him. The width comes from the wing backs, S.Nakajima and M.Sávio, who look to whip it in or deliver early crosses once the team moves up the pitch. The attack relies on link up play between the midfield and the lone striker to break the lines.

This formation offers a high degree of compactness when defending, making it very difficult for opponents to find gaps in the middle. Urawa can create wide overloads when M.Sávio and S.Nakajima push high up the pitch simultaneously. The ability to transition at pace means the team can catch opponents while they are stretched.
