Arsenal aim to control games through high pressing and rapid ball circulation, utilizing a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup focuses on overwhelming the opponent in the middle third and creating massive verticality. The football is built on heavy pressure and quick transitions to exploit spaces left by retreating defensive lines.

David Raya acts as the base for the team, playing out from the back to start attacks. The defensive unit consists of a very high line with only two central defenders, Gabriel and Saliba, who must be ready to cover large amounts of grass. Gabriel provides aerial strength and physical presence, while Saliba uses his recovery speed to sweep behind the high line. This narrow defensive block requires the midfielders to work hard to protect the space behind the central defenders.

The midfield unit functions as a complex five man group to dominate the center of the pitch. Zubimendi sits in the pivot to recycle possession and shield the defense. Next to him, Lewis-Skelly and Timber act as a double pivot to provide balance, with Timber often helping to cover the wide areas. Martin Odegaard operates in the right half space to create through balls, while Declan Rice plays as an advanced eight to carry the ball forward and arrive late into the box. This group works to compress the midfield and win the ball back high up the pitch.

Arsenal attack with three players across the front to pin the opposition defense. Nico Williams and Bukayo Saka act as inverted wingers who cut inside to create goal scoring chances, often leaving space for the midfielders to exploit. Isak or Sesko acts as the central striker, tasked to hold up the ball and make runs in behind. The team looks to use the width of the pitch before playing through the lines to find the forwards in one on one situations.

A major tactical advantage for Arsenal is the numerical superiority in midfield, which makes it hard for opponents to keep the ball. The formation also allows for high pressing in coordinated waves, making it difficult for the other team to build out from the back. By using five players in the middle, they can easily switch play and isolate wide players in one on one situations.

This formation relies on extreme bravery in the high line and intense work rates from the midfield. It is best suited for games where the team wants to dominate possession and suffocate the opponent in their own half.
