The attack relies on a partnership of two forwards working in tandem. Asprilla works as a pressing centre forward to trigger a press and knock it in behind the defence. Falcão plays as a second striker to hold up the ball and find the feet of his partner in tight spaces. They look to combine in tight spaces and use the width provided by the midfielders to stretch the defence. The Colombian striker makes constant runs in behind to pull the defenders out of position.

A major strength for Colombia is the numerical superiority in midfield. Having five players in the central zone allows them to compress the midfield and deny the pivot of the opposition. They also excel at the speed of transition, allowing them to break quickly once they win it back. This ability to press in coordinated waves makes them very difficult to play through.
