SK Sturm Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Lavalee · Johnston · Aiwu · Wüthrich · Jatta · Kiteishvili · Bøving · Horvat · Gorenc Stankovic · Yalcouyé · ScherpenSK Sturm focuses on a vertical style of football, looking to break lines with speed and directness. They utilize a 2-5-3 formation to overwhelm the opposition in the middle of the pitch. This lineup is built to dominate through heavy pressing and quick ball recovery in the attacking third.
Scherpen sits behind a very high line to act as the final layer of defense. Aiwu and Wüthrich function as the two central defenders, tasked with covering the large spaces left by the attacking midfield. Because the back line is so small, they must be prepared to step up to intercept passes or sweep behind the high line to prevent long balls. The unit works together to squeeze the space between the lines and prevent the opponent from playing through the center.
The midfield is the heart of this SK Sturm side. Johnston and Lavalee act as a double pivot to shield the defense and recycle possession. Moving further up, Yalcouyé and Gorenc Stankovic occupy the half spaces to drive forward with the ball and connect the defensive and attacking lines. Kiteishvili plays as an attacking ten in the hole, looking to receive on the half-turn and create chances for the forwards. This dense midfield allows the team to win the second ball and maintain control of the game.
The attacking unit uses three players to stretch the opposition defense. Jatta operates as a pressing centre-forward to pin the last defender and force mistakes. Bøving and Horvat act as wide wingers who spread wide to pull the defensive line apart. This movement creates space for Jatta to receive the ball or for Kiteishvili to arrive late into the box. The team looks to attack in combinations and hit in behind on the transition to catch the defense out of position.
This formation offers significant tactical advantages, such as numerical superiority in midfield. By having five players in the center, they can easily outnumber opponents and control the tempo. Another strength is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, using the front three and the midfield to trigger a press immediately upon losing the ball. This creates constant pressure on the opposition build up.
This 2-5-3 formation relies on extreme aggression and central dominance. It is a lineup best suited for facing teams that try to play short from the back against a high press.
