This lineup is built to win the ball high up the pitch and move it forward quickly to exploit gaps in the opposition defensive line. By maintaining high intensity, AEK seeks to dominate the rhythm of the match and create chances through rapid transitions.
ΑΤΜΑΤΣΙΔΗΣ works from the goal to organize the defensive unit. The back line functions as a flat back four, with ΜΠΟΡΜΠΟΚΗΣ and ΚΑΣΑΠΗΣ acting as full backs to provide width. ΔΕΛΛΑΣ and ΠΑΠΑΣΤΑΘΟΠΟΥΛΟΣ operate as the central defenders, where they must hold the line and cover for one another. While the full backs push up to support the attack, the two center halves stay narrow to defend against central runs and win the second ball.
The midfield relies on a three-man midfield with a carrier to link the play. ΖΗΚΟΣ operates in a role to drive forward with the ball, while ΤΣΙΑΡΤΑΣ and ΚΑΤΣΟΥΡΑΝΗΣ work to control the center of the pitch. One of these players often drops deep to receive the ball from the defenders to help play out from the back. This midfield group works together to squeeze the space and press in a mid-block when the team loses possession.
AEK utilizes three attackers across the front to stretch the defence. BLANCO and ΝΙΚΟΛΑΙΔΗΣ act as wide wingers who look to cut inside and create goal-scoring opportunities, often looking to isolate a one-on-one wide. ΛΥΜΠΕΡΟΠΟΥΛΟΣ operates as a lone striker, tasked to hold up the ball and find the feet of the attacking midfielders. The front three press from the front to force a long ball and win the ball back high up the pitch.
This formation offers clear tactical advantages such as the ability to press high in coordinated waves to disrupt the opponent. The presence of wide wingers allows AEK to create wide overloads when the full backs overlap. Furthermore, the central midfield trio provides the ability to win the second ball and maintain control in the middle of the park during sustained periods of play.
The 4-3-3 lineup focuses on aggressive pressing and quick movement through the thirds. This setup is best suited for games where AEK can exploit a high defensive line through speed and direct play.
