Real Sporting Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Joel · Olaetxea · Maras · Diego · Guille · Pablo · Nacho Martín · Mendez · Gelabert · Caicedo · DubasinReal Sporting looks to control the pitch through a high press and central dominance, utilizing a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup is built to dominate the middle of the park and use aggressive movement to win the ball back high up the pitch. The team relies on high intensity to squeeze the space and create chaos in the opposition half.
Joel acts as the last line of defense for Real Sporting. Behind the midfield, a back three consists of Maras, Olaetxea, and Diego. Maras and Diego act as wide centre-backs who can step into midfield to create a numbers advantage. Olaetxea stays central to defend zonally and win the header when the ball is played long. This defensive unit works to maintain a high line to compress the pitch.
The midfield functions as a five man unit that covers the entire width of the field. Pablo and Guille operate as a double pivot to shield the defense and win the second ball. Nacho Martín plays as a central carrier to connect the defensive and attacking lines. On the flanks, Gelabert and Mendez operate in the half spaces to stretch the defense. Gelabert and Mendez work to press in a mid-block and find the feet of the striker during the buildup.
In the attacking phase, the team uses two forwards in a partnership. Caicedo and Dubasin lead the line to press the opposition back line from the front. Caicedo often looks to hold up the ball to bring the attacking midfielders into play. Dubasin makes runs in behind to exploit gaps. The wide players, Gelabert and Mendez, provide width to allow the forwards to combine in tight spaces or pull wide to isolate a one on one wide.
Real Sporting gains a major advantage through numerical superiority in midfield when the wide midfielders push forward. The formation also provides great flexibility to shift between shapes during the transition. This allows the team to quickly transition from a compact defensive block to an aggressive attacking stance.
This 3-5-2 formation creates a heavy presence in the center of the pitch. It is best suited for games against opponents who try to play short from the back and can be caught by a high press.
