Besiktas looks to play a direct and defensively solid brand of football using a 5-4-1 formation. This lineup is built to sit deep and absorb pressure before hitting opponents on the transition. The team focuses on a compact defensive unit that is difficult to break down through the middle.

Moussa Dembele guards the goal as the last line of defense. The defensive unit functions as a back five with Serginho acting as the left wing back to provide width. Ola Aina plays as the right central midfielder to drive forward with the ball and connect the lines. Lindelöf operates on the left of the midfield four to press aggressively and win the ball back. Schar sits in the center to help the midfield maintain control and help the team progress through the thirds. This midfield block stays narrow to force opponents wide.

Besiktas uses a lone striker in Mert to lead the line. Mert acts as a pressing centre forward to harass the opposition back line and try to win the ball high up the pitch. The attackers do not stay static, as the wing backs Serginho and Barrow push up to provide width and deliver crosses. The team looks to find the feet of the striker or play long balls into the channels to exploit space behind the defense. When the team wins the ball, they look to break quickly to catch the opposition out of position.

This formation offers several tactical advantages, such as extreme compactness when defending in a low block. The back five makes it very hard for opponents to find space in the box. Besiktas can also create wide overloads when Serginho and Barrow move forward to join the midfield. This setup allows the team to stay extremely solid while waiting for the right moment to strike.
