A high press and technical dominance define the way Arsenal plays within a 4-5-1. This formation is built to control the ball and win it back high up the pitch. The team seeks to dominate the central areas while keeping the distance between lines small to squeeze the space.

Seaman stays in goal to command the area and manage the defense. The back four consists of Dixon at right back and Ljungberg at left back. Tony Adams plays as the right centre back, using his aerial strength and positioning to win headers and defend the zone. Campbell acts as the left centre back, stepping into midfield or covering the space behind the line. The unit functions to keep a high line and press the opposition goalkeeper.

The midfield works through a double pivot that connects the defense to the attack. Fabregas operates as the right deep lying playmaker, using his passing range to recycle possession and spread wide. Vieira plays on the left side of the pivot, using his power to drive forward and win the second ball. Ahead of them, Bergkamp and Ozil operate in the half spaces. Bergkamp uses his vision and technique to find teammates, while Ozil looks to receive on the half-turn and play through the lines.

The front line relies on the movement of Henry as a lone striker. Henry uses his pace to run in behind and pin the last defender. Van Persie plays as a second striker in the hole, dropping into the space between the midfield and the defense to link play. The team builds through the middle, but the width comes from the wide midfielders who can pull wide to stretch the defense. This allows for combinations in tight spaces and quick balls to the striker.

The lineup offers significant tactical advantages, particularly the numerical superiority in midfield. Having five players in the center allows the team to overwhelm opponents and control the tempo. Additionally, the team is able to press high in coordinated waves, using the forwards and attacking midfielders to trigger a press and force the opposition to play long. This allows the team to win the ball back and attack at pace.

This 4-5-1 formation creates a powerful central block that can transition into a lethal attack. It is best suited for facing teams that try to play short from the back and struggle with intense central pressure.
