Starting Lineup

Nedved · Trezeguet · Zidane · Camoranesi · Zambrotta · Grosso · Cannavaro · Thuram · Pirlo · Marchisio · Buffon

Juventus employs a high tempo, offensive identity using a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup is built to dominate the ball and press high up the pitch to keep the opposition pinned in their own half. The goal is to use a heavy central presence to control the game and create constant attacking threats through ball possession.

Buffon stands between the posts to provide security. The defensive unit relies on a two man back line consisting of Cannavaro and Thuram. Cannavaro is dominant in the air and uses his strength to win the header in many situations while Thuram acts as the covering defender to sweep behind a high line. Because there are only two central defenders, they must step up to engage attackers early and maintain a high position to squeeze the space.

The midfield core is the engine of Juventus. Pirlo operates as a deep lying playmaker who uses his passing range to direct the play and switch play. Beside him, Marchisio works to connect the lines and carries the ball forward to support the attack. Zidane occupies the space as an attacking ten, using his dribbling style to move through the thirds and find teammates in tight spaces. Grosso and Zambrotta sit on the edges of this midfield block to provide width and help to cover the flanks.

In the final third, the team deploys three attackers to stretch the defence. Trezeguet acts as the central striker, looking to find space and arrive late into the box. Nedved plays on the left and uses his pressing intensity to win the ball high up the pitch before moving inside. Camoranesi operates on the right to provide width and look for cutbacks from the byline. This front line works in combinations to create runs in behind and isolate defenders one on one.

This formation offers immense numerical superiority in the center of the pitch. By packing the midfield, Juventus can easily recycle possession and control the game. The ability to transition from a central block to a wide attacking presence allows for quick overloads. Furthermore, the presence of Zidane and Pirlo together allows the team to play through the lines with precision, making it hard for opponents to cut off the passing lane.

This 2-5-3 formation is a bold choice that prioritizes offensive control and midfield dominance. It is most effective against teams that sit deep and lack the speed to exploit the space behind the two central defenders.
