In the attacking phase, Empoli utilizes a two-man forward partnership consisting of 9 and 11. The two attackers work in close combinations to stretch the defence. 11 often plays as a pressing centre-forward to force the opposition into mistakes, while 9 acts as a target man to hold up the ball. This allows 10 to find the feet of the strikers or play a one-two to break the line. When the team transitions, 9 and 11 look to make runs in behind to catch the opposition out of position.

This formation offers several tactical advantages, such as numerical superiority in the central areas when the team is in a mid-block. The team can also use the speed of transition to catch opponents on the break.
