Atalanta plays a very aggressive style of football built on a heavy high press and verticality. This 3-4-3 formation is designed to squeeze the space in the opposition half and win the ball back quickly. By pushing players high up the pitch, the team looks to attack the defensive line before the opponent can settle into a rhythm. This identity relies on constant movement and the ability to press from the front.

SALVETTI starts in goal to sweep behind a high line. The defensive unit functions as a back three with CORTINOVIS acting as the central defender to hold the line and win the second ball. PICCIOLI plays as the left centre back to cover the space behind the left wing back, while MONDINI operates as the right centre back to provide balance. This back three must stay compact to deny the turn of the opposition forwards while being ready to step up and engage high in the pitch.

In the middle of the park, the midfield works to connect the defense to the attack. BONOMI and DEGROSSI form a central pairing to control the tempo and protect the back three. BONOMI works to shield the defense and recycle possession, while DEGROSSI looks to carry the ball forward into the half spaces. The width comes from PITZALIS on the right and OBERTI on the left, who act as wing backs to provide constant service to the front line. These two players must track back to help the defense and cover the wide areas when the team loses possession.

The attacking unit uses three players to stretch the defense wide. ROVELLI sits as the central striker to find the feet of the midfielders or run in behind the defenders. GAMBA plays on the left as an inverted winger to cut inside and create chances, while BELOTTI operates on the right to spread the pitch and cross on the run. This lineup allows Atalanta to attack in combinations, using the movement of the wing backs to create overlaps. The forwards press the opposition back line intensely to force a long ball.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it difficult for opponents to play out from the back. The team also creates wide overloads by having PITZALIS and OBERTI push up alongside the wingers to stretch the defense. This provides multiple passing lanes to penetrate the opposition block. Furthermore, the speed of transition allows the players to hit the opposition on the break and catch them out of position as soon as the ball is won.

This 3-4-3 formation is built for an aggressive, intense game. It is best suited for matches against teams that struggle to play under pressure and cannot handle a high defensive line.
