Starting Lineup

Zinchenko · Kiwior · Timber · Saliba · Sterling · Trossard · Ødegaard · Rice · Thomas · Saka · Raya

Arsenal focus on controlling the game through heavy possession and high pressure in a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup looks to dominate the ball by building play through a congested middle zone and using high intensity to win it back quickly. The goal is to stretch the opposition by using the width of the pitch while keeping many players close together in the central areas.

David Raya acts as the lone goalkeeper behind a very high defensive line. Saliba and Kiwior operate as two central defenders who must play out from the back to start attacks. Saliba uses his recovery speed to cover the space behind when the team pushes high, while Kiwior provides support to prevent direct long balls. Because there are only two central defenders, they must stay compact to prevent being split by through balls.

The midfield is the engine of the Arsenal lineup, featuring a five man unit that controls the tempo. Timber and Zinchenko play as two holding midfielders who sit deep to protect the two center backs. Rice works alongside Thomas to drive forward with the ball and press aggressively in the middle. Ødegaard operates as the attacking ten, finding pockets of space to create chances and link the midfield to the front line.

In the attacking phase, the team uses three forwards to pin the opposition defense. Sterling plays as a lone striker to lead the line and hold up the ball for others. Saka operates as an inverted winger on the right, cutting inside to use his dribbling to create threats. Trossard provides width and movement on the left, often looking to arrive late into the box or link up with the midfielders.

This formation offers significant numerical superiority in the central areas, making it difficult for opponents to find passing lanes through the middle. Arsenal can also use wide overloads when the midfielders push forward to support the wingers. The ability to press high in coordinated waves allows the team to win the ball back high up the pitch and attack immediately.

This high risk system relies on the technical ability of the players to keep the ball in tight spaces. It is best suited for matches where Arsenal want to dominate a lower block opponent through constant pressure.
