Starting Lineup

Arsenal aim to control every inch of the pitch through intense ball retention and high pressure in a 2-6-2 formation. Timber and Lewis Skelly act as a double pivot to provide stability, with Timber often looking to carry the ball forward. Rice operates as a central powerhouse to win second balls and recycle possession, while Thomas provides additional control in the middle. Ødegaard operates in the right half-space to create chances and pick up runners, while Martinelli stays high on the left to push the defensive line back. This group connects the defense to the attack by playing short from the back and through the lines.

In the attacking phase, Arsenal utilize two forwards to occupy the opposition centre backs. Trossard and Saka work as a partnership, with Saka often looking to cut inside from the right to find space. Trossard acts as a pressing centre-forward to force the opposition into mistakes. The wide players, Martinelli and Ødegaard, support the strikers by spreading the play and creating overloads. This movement allows for quick combinations and provides options for cutbacks from the byline once the wide areas are breached.

One major advantage of this Arsenal lineup is the massive numerical superiority in midfield which makes it very hard for opponents to play through the center.
