Starting Lineup

Arsenal focuses on heavy possession and high pressing within a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup is built to dominate the ball and control the tempo of the game through a dense central presence. By playing with such a high number of players in the middle, Arsenal aims to suffocate the opposition and win the ball back quickly in the final third.

Lehmann stays between the posts to organize the defensive unit. The back line consists of a two man central defence with Saliba and G. Magalhães acting as the primary blockers. Saliba plays as a ball playing defender with high composure, while G. Magalhães uses his aerial strength to defend set pieces and clearances. Because there are only two dedicated defenders, they often step up to squeeze the space and set the offside trap, relying on the midfield to provide cover.

The midfield is a massive engine room designed to control every passing lane. A double pivot of A. Cole and Timber provides the foundation, with Timber acting as a carrier to drive the ball forward. Vieira and Rice operate as two inverted eights to occupy the half spaces and win the second ball. Rice provides high pressing intensity to disrupt the opponent, while Vieira connects the defensive and attacking lines. Havertz plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, finding pockets of space to receive on the half turn and play through the lines.

The attacking unit utilizes three players across the front to stretch the defence. Henry plays as a pressing centre-forward who looks to run in behind the opposition line. Bergkamp operates as a second striker in the hole, often dropping deep to link up play and find the feet of the striker. Ødegaard plays as an inverted winger on the right, cutting inside to create chances or whip it in. This front three works in combinations to pull defenders out of position and create one on one situations.

This formation offers significant tactical advantages, particularly numerical superiority in midfield. By packing the center, Arsenal can easily recycle possession and move the ball quickly from side to side. The high number of players in advanced positions also allows for the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it very difficult for opponents to build play from the back.
