Kahn sits between the posts to command the area and organize the back line. The defensive unit consists of a narrow pair of central defenders in Lucio and Demichelis. Lucio acts as a ball playing defender while Demichelis provides cover and physical presence. This small back two must step up to squeeze the space and set the offside trap to prevent runners from getting behind them.

The midfield is the engine room for FC Bayern, utilizing a five man group to control the center. Lizarazu and Lahm act as wide midfielders who provide much needed width, while Matthäus and Effenberg form a strong central pairing to win the second ball and recycle possession. Matthäus is known for his immense work rate and passing range. Rummenigge operates as an attacking ten behind the striker, finding pockets of space to link the midfield to the attack.

In the final third, the team employs three attackers to stretch the opposition. Ribery and Robben act as inverted wingers who cut inside to create chances, often leaving space for the wide midfielders to occupy. Robben is famous for his dribbling style and ability to cut inside on his left foot. G. Müller operates as a clinical striker who looks to find the feet of the striker or make runs in behind. The attack relies on quick combinations to split the defence with a through ball.

One major advantage of this lineup is the numerical superiority in midfield, which allows the team to control the tempo. The presence of five players in the middle makes it very difficult for opponents to play through the lines. Additionally, the team can create wide overloads when the wingers and wide midfielders combine to pin the last defender. This creates constant pressure on the opposition back line.
