Real Sporting aims to play a heavy vertical game through a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup is built to overload the final third and pressure the opponent high up the pitch. By pushing many players forward, the team looks to win the ball back quickly and attack the goal with speed.

Yañez starts in goal to protect the back line. The defense works as a flat back four with Maras and Diego acting as the central defenders. Maras and Diego must hold a compact shape and cover the space behind the full backs. Guille and Pablo play on the flanks, where they must track back to prevent crosses and deal with runners. When the team loses the ball, the defenders hold a high line to squeeze the space and keep the unit close together.

In the middle of the pitch, Real Sporting uses a double pivot consisting of Nacho Martin and Olaetxea. These two players serve as the engine room, tasked with shielding the defense and breaking up play. Nacho Martin and Olaetxea must also act as the link between the back four and the four attackers. They need to win the second ball and play short from the back to recycle possession when the pressure is high. One of them often drops between the center backs to receive and help build the play.

The attacking unit is very aggressive with four players positioned high up the pitch. Gelabert and Otero act as a central partnership, looking to find space between the opposition defenders. Dubasin and Nico Serrano provide width on the wings, with Dubasin on the right and Nico Serrano on the left. The wingers often cut inside to create more central presence, allowing the full backs to push up. This formation creates constant runs in behind and forces the opposition to sit in a low block.

The main advantage of this formation is the ability to create massive numerical superiority in the attacking zone. By having four players close to the goal, the team can pin the last defender and overwhelm the opposition box. Another strength is the capacity to press in pairs from the front, which can trigger a press high up the pitch and force a long ball from the opponent. The speed of transition when the double pivot wins the ball allows the four attackers to strike quickly.

This 4-2-4 formation focuses on high intensity and heavy attacking pressure. It is best suited for games where the team needs to break down a defensive opponent or play against a side that struggles with high pressing.
