Rangers Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Kelly · Souttar · Balogun · Propper · Tavernier · Yilmaz · Raskin · Diomande · Dessers · Cerny · IgamaneRangers look to win the ball high and use quick transitions through a 3-4-3 formation. This lineup is built to play with high intensity and use the width of the pitch to stretch the opposition. The team looks to control the tempo through a compact middle unit while relying on the pace of the attackers to hit in behind on the transition.
Kelly sits between the posts to organize the defensive unit. The back line uses a back three where Souttar acts as the right centre-back, providing aerial strength. Balogun plays as the left centre-back to cover the space, while Propper occupies the central position to sweep behind the line. This defensive unit holds a high line to squeeze the space, requiring the defenders to be ready to sprint back if the ball is lost.
The midfield operates as a central pairing with Raskin and Diomande acting as the two central midfielders. Raskin works to win the second ball and shield the defence, while Diomande looks to carry the ball forward and connect the defensive and attacking lines. On the flanks, Yilmaz and Tavernier act as wide midfielders. Tavernier pushes high to provide width, while Yilmaz tracks back to help the defensive unit when the team loses possession.
In the attacking third, Rangers use three attackers to pin the last defender. Igamane plays as the left winger, cutting inside to find space, while Cerny operates on the right wing to stretch the defence. Dessers acts as the lone striker, looking to find the feet of the striker and hold up the ball for the runners. This front three presses from the front to force a long ball from the opposition, creating chances for the wide players to arrive late into the box or deliver a cross.
One tactical advantage for Rangers is the ability to create wide overloads when Tavernier overlaps the winger. The formation also offers the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it difficult for opponents to play out from the back. Having three central defenders allows for better coverage when the wide midfielders push high up the pitch.
This 3-4-3 formation relies on high energy and quick movement to dominate games. It is best suited for matches against teams that play a high line and can be caught on the break.
