Osasuna focuses on a hard to break defensive unit that relies on rapid transitions to catch opponents off guard. The team employs a 5-3-2 formation to control the central zones and protect the middle of the pitch. This lineup is built to sit in a mid-block, wait for the right moment to win the ball, and then push forward quickly.

Sergio Herrera starts between the posts to organize the defensive line. The back five features Boyomo and Catena as the central defenders, with Boyomo providing aerial strength and Catena acting as a covering defender to sweep behind. Herrando occupies the left side of this central trio to maintain a compact defensive block. Areso operates as the right wing back to provide width, while Bretones acts as the left wing back to help defend the flank and push up during attacks. This defensive unit works to squeeze the space between the lines and keep the opposition in front of them.

The midfield consists of a three man unit designed to control the center. Torró sits in the middle to shield the defence and win the second ball. On either side, Moncayola and Aimar Oroz operate to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Moncayola works to carry the ball forward, while Aimar Oroz looks to find the feet of the attackers and play through the lines. This trio works to stay close together to deny the turn to opposing midfielders and ensure the team is never caught out when playing out from the back.

In the attacking phase, Osasuna utilizes a partnership of two forwards. Budimir acts as the target man to hold up the ball and win headers, providing a focal point for long balls. Rubén García plays as a second striker in the hole, looking to find space between the lines and arrive late into the box. The wing backs, Areso and Bretones, provide the width to stretch the defence, allowing the two forwards to work in combinations. When the team wins the ball, they look to hit in behind on the transition to exploit the space left by the opposition.

A major advantage for Osasuna is the numerical superiority they create in the central areas of the pitch. The combination of a back five and a three man midfield makes it very difficult for opponents to play through the middle. The team also benefits from the speed of transition when the wing backs push up to support the two forwards. This setup allows the team to maintain compactness when defending while still having the tools to attack with pace.
