Starting Lineup

Beljo · Jansson · Seidl · Sangaré · Grgic · Oswald · J. Auer · Bolla · Raux Yao · Cvetkovic · Hedl

SK Rapid seeks to win the ball back high up the pitch and strike with heavy verticality through a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup focuses on quick transitions to exploit spaces behind the opposition back line. The team relies on a compact defensive block to force long balls and then breaks quickly once possession is regained.

Hedl sits between the posts to command his area and organize the back five. Grgic acts as the central anchor in the back three, providing aerial strength and leadership to the defensive unit. To his sides, Raux Yao and Cvetkovic provide coverage, with Raux Yao operating as a ball playing defender to start attacks from the back. J. Auer and Bolla act as attacking wing backs, pushing high up the pitch to provide width while ensuring they track back to maintain a narrow defensive block when out of possession.

A two man midfield serves as the engine room for SK Rapid, tasking Sangaré and Oswald with controlling the center of the park. Sangaré works to shield the defense and win the second ball, while Oswald looks to carry the ball forward to connect the defensive and attacking lines. This pairing must stay disciplined to avoid being bypassed by central passes, ensuring they compress the midfield when the team sits deep.

The attacking front three stays high to pin the last defender and stretch the defense. Beljo operates as a lone striker, using his physicality to hold up the ball and find the feet of his teammates. Seidl and Jansson act as wide wingers, with Seidl cutting inside to create central threats and Jansson looking to get to the byline to whip it in. This front line presses from the front to disrupt the opposition build up play and creates chances through quick combinations in transition.

The main advantage of this SK Rapid lineup is the ability to create wide overloads when J. Auer and Bolla push forward to support the wingers. This creates a numerical superiority in the final third that is difficult to defend. Additionally, the team offers great compactness when defending, making it very hard for opponents to play through the lines once they drop into their defensive block.

This 5-2-3 formation is built to absorb pressure and destroy opponents through rapid counter attacks. It is best suited for games against teams that dominate possession but leave significant space behind their defenders.
