They must tuck in to compress the midfield and prevent the opposition from playing through the lines.

Senna leads the line as a lone striker and must hold up the ball to allow the team to move up the pitch. Senna and the wide players press the opposition back line to force a long ball. When in transition, the team looks to hit in behind. Marley and Hoto overlap the wide players to whip it in or deliver early crosses. Flawless and Dayzze can cut inside to create a second striker role in the hole.

One major advantage is the ability to hold a compact block and deny space in the middle. With five defenders and four midfielders, Liverpool is very difficult to break down in a low block. The formation also creates wide overloads when Hoto and Marley advance. This allows the team to switch play and find attackers in space.
