A high press and heavy verticality defines the Man City lineup in this 2-5-3 formation. This system is built to win the ball high up the pitch and quickly move it toward the goal. Manchester City aims to overwhelm the opposition through central density and aggressive forward movements to keep the opponent pinned back.

Haaland operates in goal to anchor the defensive side of the formation. The back line consists of a two man unit with Marmoush and Foden acting as the central defenders. These two must stay narrow to protect the middle while being ready to step up to trigger a press. Because there are only two defenders, Marmoush and Foden must be ready to track runners and cover the wide areas quickly if the midfield is bypassed.

The midfield is a five man block designed to control the center and the flanks. Rodri plays as an attacking ten, looking to find pockets of space and drive the play forward. In the central areas, Nico and the other CM work to control the tempo, with Nico acting as a carrier to transition the ball from the back. Gvardiol plays as a left midfielder to provide width on that side, while Nunes operates on the right. This group functions to win the second ball and ensure the team can recycle possession quickly when the initial attack fails.

In the final third, the team uses three attackers to stretch the defence. Dias and Ake play as inverted wingers, cutting inside to create central threats and leaving space for the midfielders to move into. The lone striker, GK, acts as a pressing centre-forward to harass the opposition back line. This front three looks to play one-two combinations and make runs in behind to exploit any gaps left by the opponent. The goal is to use the width of Gvardiol and Nunes to eventually deliver crosses or cutbacks into the box.

Man City gains a massive advantage through numerical superiority in the midfield. This allows the team to squeeze the space and dominate possession in the middle third. Another strength is the ability to press in coordinated waves, using the front three and the midfield five to trap the opponent. This creates high turnover opportunities that lead to immediate scoring chances.

This formation is built for total dominance and high intensity pressing. It is best suited for games where Man City needs to break down a deep low block by overwhelming them with numbers.
