PSG aims to control games through high pressing and rapid transitions using a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup relies on winning the ball high up the pitch to catch the opposition out of position. The tactical intent is to use wide players to stretch the defence while maintaining a solid base to prevent counter attacks.

Donnarumma guards the goal and acts as the first point of distribution. The defensive unit operates with a back three consisting of Guimarães, Marquinhos, and Pacho. Marquinhos serves as a ball playing centre back who can step up to intercept play, while Pacho and Guimarães provide cover and aerial strength. Vitinhia plays as a left wing back to provide width and track back when needed, while Tonality operates as a right wing back to push high up the pitch. This defensive block can sit deep or push high to compress the space between the lines.

The midfield is a double pivot designed to link the defence to the attack. Dembélé and Kvaratskhelia occupy the central roles to drive forward with the ball and press aggressively in a mid-block. Dembélé uses his dribbling style to carry the ball forward, while Kvaratskhelia works to win the second ball and move the play through the thirds. These two players must work to deny the pivot of the opposition and ensure the team stays compact when defending the central zone.

The attacking line uses three attackers to pin the last defender. Isaac acts as a pressing centre forward who works to find the feet of the striker and hold up the ball. Hakimi and Nuno Mendes operate as wide attackers, with Hakimi often looking to cut inside from the right and Nuno Mendes providing width from the left. The goal is to create runs in behind and use combinations in tight spaces to break the line. This attacking group focuses on quick transitions to exploit the space left by advancing defenders.

PSG gains a major advantage through the ability to create wide overloads when Tonality and Vitinhia push forward to support the wingers. The formation also allows for great compactness when defending in a low block, making it hard for opponents to find passing lanes through the middle. The speed of transition allows the team to move from a defensive stance to an attacking one with very few passes.
