Chicago Soccer Formation
Starting Lineup
Yassine Bounou · Kelsen · Fikayo Tomori · Thomas Delaney · Johnny Cardoso · Vicente © · Gonzalo Montiel · Marcos Acuña · Manoel Jr · Ikaro · Ygor SátiroChicago relies on a high press and rapid transitions using a 3-4-3 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball high up the pitch and strike quickly before the opposition can settle. The goal is to use width and verticality to stretch the defence and create chaos in the final third.
Yassine Bounou starts in goal to command the area and sweep behind the high line. The defensive unit operates with a back three consisting of Fikayo Tomori as the right centre back, Kelsen in the middle, and Thomas Delaney on the left. Tomori uses his pace to cover ground while Kelsen acts as the central anchor. Delaney provides stability on the left side of the trio to ensure the unit remains compact when the team drops into a mid-block.
In the middle of the pitch, Chicago uses a double pivot to control the game. Vicente, who is the captain, sits in the defensive midfield role to shield the back three and recycle possession. Johnny Cardoso plays alongside him, driving forward with the ball to connect the defensive and attacking lines. The wide midfielders, Marcos Acuña and Gonzalo Montiel, act as wing backs to provide constant width. Acuña pushes high on the left to overlap while Montiel works the right side to create passing lanes and press the opposition wide players.
The attacking front line features three players tasked with pinning the last defender. Ygor Sátiro acts as the lone striker, looking to hold up the ball and find the feet of his teammates. On the flanks, Ikaro and Manoel Jr operate as wide wingers who cut inside to threaten the goal. This movement creates space for Acuña and Montiel to overlap. The forwards press from the front to force a long ball and win the second ball in dangerous areas.
A major advantage of this formation is the ability to press high in coordinated waves. By having three attackers and two wing backs pushing up, Chicago can squeeze the space in the opposition half. The double pivot of Vicente and Johnny Cardoso allows the team to maintain numerical superiority in midfield during transitions. This setup also provides the flexibility to shift between a back three and a back five when defending deep.
This 3-4-3 formation is designed for a high intensity game built on pressing and quick vertical play. It is best suited for facing opponents who struggle to play out from the back under pressure.
