Starting Lineup

Linked · Physics · Sernity · Ankle · Wazabi · Wok (C) · Emma · Wano · Zye · Kaius · Yomino?

Sweden seeks to play with a high press and rapid transitions using a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball high up the pitch and strike quickly before the opposition can organize. The team relies on heavy energy to force mistakes and use the width of the pitch to stretch the defence.

Yomino acts as the lone goalkeeper behind a back five. The central defence consists of Kaius and Wano, who stay narrow to protect the middle. Zye plays as the right centre-back to help cover the space behind the wing-back. Wok (C), the captain, plays as the right wing-back and is tasked with providing width and attacking the flank. Emma operates as the left wing-back to balance the side. This unit can sit deep in a low block or step up to squeeze the space when the team wins the ball.

In the middle of the pitch, Sweden uses a two man midfield to link the lines. Wazabi acts as the single pivot to shield the defence and pick up runners. Ankle plays as an attacking ten behind the striker to drive forward with the ball and find the feet of the attackers. This pairing must work hard to cover the ground when the wing-backs push high. The midfield aims to win the second ball and immediately look to play through the lines to the front three.

The attack features three players across the front. Linked acts as the lone striker to hold up the ball and pin the last defender. Physics plays as the left winger and looks to cut inside to create goal scoring chances. Sernity operates as the right winger to provide width and whip it in toward the box. The forwards press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition. They move in combinations to create runs in behind or to get to the byline for a cutback.

Sweden possesses several tactical advantages with this lineup. The wing-backs Wok (C) and Emma can create wide overloads to isolate the opposition full-backs. This formation also allows for great compactness when defending in a mid-block. The speed of transition from the midfield duo to the front three allows Sweden to hit in behind on the transition very effectively.

This 5-2-3 formation provides a solid defensive base while maintaining a threat on the counter. It is a setup best suited for games against dominant teams where Sweden can sit deep and strike with pace.
