Empoli relies on a high press and quick verticality through a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup aims to win the ball high up the pitch and exploit gaps in the opposition defense through aggressive numbers in the final third. The goal is to squeeze the space and force errors in the middle of the park to launch rapid attacks.

ISAAC stands between the posts to protect the goal. The defensive unit consists of a narrow back two where ULMA and 6 FERRINI operate. These central defenders must be ready to step up to manage the offside trap or drop to cover space behind them. Because there are only two players in the back line, they must remain compact and communicate constantly to prevent runners from slipping between them.

A five man midfield serves as the engine for Empoli. MANGIAMELI sits in a single pivot role to shield the defense and recycle possession. Ahead of him, DI STEFANO/ MUSUMECI06 and LOREFICE act as inverted eights to connect the lines and drive forward. GUEHI and SILLAH occupy the half spaces to create overloads, pushing high to press the opponent. This group works to win the second ball and quickly transition from defense to attack.

The attacking trio focuses on stretching the opponent. FRITTITTA operates as a pressing centre-forward to pin the last defender and provide a focal point for long balls. On the flanks, MASCARA/DIALLO and MASCARA/DI STEFANO provide width, looking to cut inside or get to the byline to deliver crosses. The movement of the front three is designed to create runs in behind and allow the midfielders to arrive late into the box.

This formation provides significant numerical superiority in the middle of the pitch. The wide midfielders GUEHI and SILLAH allow the team to overload the wings, making it hard for opponents to defend the wide areas. Additionally, the high positioning of the players enables the team to press in coordinated waves, which can quickly disorganize the opposition.

Empoli uses this aggressive lineup to dominate the center and catch teams on the break. It is a system best suited for games where the team wants to play against a side that struggles to play out from the back.
