Osasuna aims to be defensively solid and rely on rapid transitions using a 5-3-2 formation. This lineup focuses on staying compact and making the pitch small to deny space for the opposition. The system is built to absorb pressure and then use the verticality of the forwards to strike quickly when the ball is won back.

Sergio Herrera guards the goal and oversees the defensive unit. The back line functions as a back three with Catena, Boyomo, and Herrando acting as the central defenders. Boyomo and Catena provide aerial strength and presence in the middle, while Herrando covers the spaces behind. Areso and Bretones act as attacking wing backs to provide width. Areso pushes up to join the attack, while Bretones covers the left flank to ensure the team stays balanced. The whole defensive unit works to hold a compact shape and force the opposition wide.

The midfield operates as a three man midfield with a carrier in the center. Torró acts as the central anchor to shield the defence and win the second ball. Aimar Oroz and Pablo Ibáñez play as the two central midfielders who connect the defensive and attacking lines. Aimar Oroz uses his passing range to move the ball forward, while Pablo Ibáñez works to press aggressively and win the ball high. This trio works to compress the midfield and prevent the opponent from playing through the lines.

Osasuna employs two forwards in a partnership at the front. Budimir acts as a target man to hold up the ball and win headers, while Rubén García plays as a second striker in the hole to exploit the spaces between the lines. The attack is built through quick transitions where the wing backs, Areso and Bretones, provide width to stretch the defence. This creates runs in behind for Rubén García and allows Budimir to find space to receive the ball. The forwards press the opposition back line to force a long ball and regain possession high up the pitch.

One major advantage for Osasuna is the ability to maintain compactness when defending in a mid-block. By having five defenders and three central midfielders, they are very difficult to break down through the middle. Another strength is the speed of transition when Areso and Bretones carry the ball forward.
