Marseille employs a very defensive and counter attacking identity using a 5-4-1 formation. This lineup is built to sit deep and invite pressure before looking to strike with speed. The goal is to deny space in the middle and use the width of the pitch only when the team is breaking forward.

Esqui operates as the goalkeeper to command his box. The defense works as a back five that can shift into a narrow defensive block. Ufenss stays central to win the header and clear the lines. Moonie plays as the right centre back to cover the channel, while Wano acts as the left centre back to protect the zone. Noke works as an attacking wing back on the right to push up and support the attack, whereas Shiro plays as a more defensive wing back on the left to hold the line. The unit stays together to squeeze the space.

The midfield line is a flat four that works to compress the midfield. Chocolate plays as a single pivot to shield the defence and drop between the centre backs to receive the ball. Kuke and Goofy act as the two central players to win the second ball and carry the ball forward. Merc plays on the left of the midfield four to connect the lines and press in a mid block. This group works to deny the turn of any opponent trying to play through the lines.

The attacking phase centers on Resummon playing as a lone striker. Resummon works as a pressing centre forward to pin the last defender and force a long ball. When Marseille transitions, the team looks to hit in behind on the transition. Noke and Shiro push high to provide width, looking to whip it in or deliver early crosses to the central area. The team relies on these runs to stretch the defence and find the feet of the striker to finish the move.

A major advantage of this formation is the compactness when defending in a low block. Having five defenders and four midfielders makes it extremely hard for the opposition to play through the lines or find gaps. Another strength is the ability to create wide overloads once Noke or Shiro move up the pitch to support the front. This allows the team to switch play and isolate wide players in one on one situations during the break.
