Starting Lineup

Sundowns focus on a high press and quick transitions through a 3-4-3 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball high up the pitch and use wide areas to stretch the opposition. The team seeks to control games by using intense pressure and verticality to catch opponents off guard.

Jody plays between the posts to start the build up from the back. The defensive unit uses a back three where Mvala acts as the central anchor to win the second ball and hold the line. Suarez operates as the left centre back to cover space, while Mdunyelwa sits on the right to provide defensive solidity. This three man unit works together to defend zonally and ensure the team remains compact when the opposition tries to play through the lines.

The midfield functions with two central midfielders and two wide players. Mashego and Khoza form a central pairing to control the middle, with Khoza looking to carry the ball forward while Mashego works to shield the defence and intercept passes. Maseko and Johannes operate as wide midfielders who provide width and support the attack. These four link the defence to the front line by recycling possession and driving the team into the final third.

In the attacking third, Sundowns use three forwards to pin the last defender. Shalulile acts as the lone striker, using his presence to hold up the ball and find the feet of his teammates. Maema and Kodisang play as wide attackers, with Maema positioned on the right and Kodisang on the left. They look to cut inside to create overloads in central areas or provide width to whip it in towards the near post. The forwards press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition.
