PSG aims to dominate possession and control the tempo through a high press and a 4-3-3 formation. This lineup relies on individual quality to break lines and maintain pressure in the opponent half. The goal is to use a high line to squeeze the space and keep the ball in advanced areas to keep the opposition pinned back.
Lama sits between the posts to start the build up. The back line functions as a flat back four where Heinze plays as the right back to provide width and Maxwell acts as the left back. In the middle, Marquinhos [c] is a dominant presence in the air and a leader in the defensive unit. T. Silva plays alongside him to cover the space and sweep behind the line when the team pushes high. They defend zonally to protect the central area and manage the distance between the defense and the midfield.
The midfield operates as a three-man midfield with a carrier to drive the play forward. L. Fernandez plays as the left central midfielder to connect the defense to the attack and recycle possession. Rai acts as a creative force in the center to find teammates in tight spaces. Di Maria plays as the right central midfielder to drive with the ball and link the midfield to the final third. This trio works to win the second ball and prevent the opponent from playing through the middle.
PSG uses three attackers across the front to stretch the defence. Ibrahimovic acts as the target man to hold up the ball and provide a focal point for the attack. Neymar plays as an inverted winger on the right to cut inside and create chances, while Mbappe plays on the left to make runs in behind. They use combinations in transition to catch the opposition out of position. The forwards press from the front to force a long ball and win it back high up the pitch.
This formation offers significant attacking threat through wide overloads when Heinze and Maxwell push forward. The team can also use its speed of transition to hit teams on the break with Mbappe and Neymar. Having Ibrahimovic in the box allows PSG to attack the far post with deliveries from wide areas.
This 4-3-3 lineup is built to overwhelm opponents through technical superiority and high pressing. It is best suited for games where PSG needs to control the ball and dominate the attacking third.
