Milan intends to play with a high press and a direct style through a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup is built to overwhelm opponents in their own half by squeezing the space and hunting for the ball high up the pitch. Riley acts as the goalkeeper behind a very narrow back two. Emmanuel and Younis operate as the central defenders in a high line, where they must be ready to cover the space behind them or step up to intercept long balls. Because there are only two defenders, they must be prepared to defend one on one if the opposition plays through the lines. The defensive unit relies on the midfielders to drop back and help protect the central area.

A five man midfield serves as the engine of Milan. Kamar plays as the single pivot to shield the defense and win the second ball. Riley and Rayan operate as the central duo, with Riley driving forward with the ball and Rayan connecting the defensive and attacking lines. On the flanks, Leland and Daniel provide the width, playing as wide midfielders who can push high to support the attack or track back to help the two central defenders.

The attack features three players across the front to pin the last defender. Eddie acts as the lone striker, working to hold up the ball and find the feet of his teammates. Charlie and Tommy play as wide wingers, with Charlie cutting inside and Tommy looking to stretch the defense. This front three works to press from the front, forcing the opposition to play long and allowing the rest of the Milan team to win the ball back high up the pitch.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it very difficult for the opponent to build from the back. The team also gains numerical superiority in the attacking third, which allows for quick combinations in tight spaces. By using Leland and Daniel to provide width, the team can also isolate wide players in one on one situations once they reach the final third.

This 2-5-3 formation is a high risk, high reward system built for aggressive pressing. It is best suited for games where Milan can catch an opponent in transition or when facing a team that struggles to play out from the back.
