Starting Lineup

Riley (Connor) · Emmanuel · Tommy · Eddie · Kamar (McLarty) · Daniel · Rayan (Wisdom) · Charlie (Redfearn) · Younis (Salar) · Leland (Irvine) · Riley (Thompson)

Milan looks to control the center of the pitch through a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup focuses on verticality and winning the second ball in the middle third. By packing the central areas, Milan aims to dominate territory and force the opposition into wide areas where they can be trapped.

Riley operates between the posts to start the build up. The defensive unit sits in a back three with Kamar acting as the central anchor to hold the line. To his left, Emmanuel plays as a wide centre-back to cover the flank, while Younis provides coverage on the right side. This three man unit works to squeeze the space between the defensive line and the midfield to deny the turn to any attacking players.

The midfield works as a five man block to control the tempo. Rayan and Tommy act as the central pairing to shield the defence and recycle possession. Daniel plays as an attacking ten behind the strikers to find the feet of the attackers and play through the lines. On the wings, Riley and Eddie act as wide midfielders who must track back to defend but also push up to provide width. This group helps to progress through the thirds by finding pockets of space between the opposition lines.

In the final third, the team uses two forwards in a partnership. Leland and Charlie work in tandem to stretch the defence, with one often looking to make runs in behind while the other looks to hold up the ball. They press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition. When the ball moves wide, the wingers look to whip it in for the strikers to attack the near post or the far post. The team relies on quick combinations to break the line and create chances.

A major strength of this Milan lineup is the numerical superiority in midfield, which allows them to control games through possession. The wingers, Riley and Eddie, can also create wide overloads to help the attackers. This setup makes it very hard for opponents to play through the center, forcing them to play wide where the back three can defend zonally.

This 3-5-2 formation is built to dominate the central corridor and win the battle in midfield. It is best suited for matches against teams that play with a single pivot or those that struggle to deal with aggressive pressing.
